Fluff? This article won't have any. Just numbers cold as Hoth.

Tombstone showing the life of Disney Star Wars, 2 Tatooine suns and Luke Skywalker's house in the background.

Below is a list of every live action Star Wars movie in order of release year, then 3 numbered ranks for each film, which are: Global Box Office, and 2 different categories of the domestic box office (which will be explained after the chart). After the explanation of the chart is given, a list will be provided of movies in 2026 that will have higher grosses than The Mandalorian and Grogu across the 3 different listed categories, which will make history because 2026 will be the first time ever a live action Star Wars won't crack the year's 10 highest grossing films in any of these 3 categories.

For the below list: the first number is the "Global Rank", marked by (G). The second number is the "Domestic Rank (in year)", marked by (DY). The third number is the "Domestic Rank (calendar grosses)", marked by (DC). For the sake of space, the "Episodes" will be listed as E1, E2, E3, etc. Rogue One will be listed as RO, Solo will be S, and The Mandalorian and Grogu will be MG. You know the full titles.

This list was compiled from different years from Box Office Mojo.

Title G DY DC

  1. E4 (1977) # 1 # 1 # 1

  2. E5 (1980) # 1 # 1 # 1

  3. E6 (1983) # 1 # 1 # 1

  4. E1 (1999) # 1   # 1    # 1

  5. E2 (2002)  # 4   # 3  # 2

  6. E3 (2005)  # 2   # 1   # 1

  7. E7 (2015)    # 1  # 1   # 2

  8. RO (2016)   # 2  # 1  # 2

  9. E8 (2017)    # 1  # 1  # 1

  10. S (2018)  # 24 # 12  # 10

  11. E9 (2019)   # 7  # 3  # 6

  12. MG (2026) Not top 10 for any of these 3 categories.

“Domestic Ranking (in year)” means all the box office money is counted for a given movie, regardless of if it overlaps into another calendar year, meaning the year the movie released is what's relevant.

"Domestic Ranking (calendar grosses)" means all the box office money is counted for a given movie, but only within the calendar year being considered. So for example, in 2015, "The Force Awakens" released in December of 2015, but not all of its box office was earned in 2015, which is why "The Force Awakens" is # 2 for (DC) - "Domestic (calendar grosses)", whereas "Jurassic World" is # 1, because Jurassic World released in June of 2015 and earned all of its box office within the calendar year of 2015. Additionally - Avatar: Fire and Ash is listed in 2026's "Domestic (calendar grosses)", despite releasing in 2025. Because it released in December of 2025, money earned by Avatar 3 is listed in the "Domestic (calendar grosses)" for 2025 and 2026.

Also for context, it would seem that Box Office Mojo ranks the "Global Rank" by "in year", meaning all the box office money is counted for a given movie, regardless of if it overlaps into another calendar year, meaning the year the movie released is what's relevant.

Below is a list of 2026 movies, some of which have released, some of which have not yet released. The common thread is each movie listed will rank higher than The Mandalorian and Grogu in all 3 previously mentioned categories. There may be movies in this list that are incorrect that don't actually fulfill this. And there may be movies this list does not account for (surprise hits). But (to be perfectly candid) The Mandalorian and Grogu's box office is so bad, there's no chance it finishes in the top 10 for any of the 3 previously mentioned categories. When that happens, other sites and outlets will report that, for the first time ever, a live action Star Wars movie didn't crack the year's 10 highest grossing films. But you read it first at Satire Station. The signal's just taking time catching up to everyone else.
